It stands as one of the most memorable Wales-New Zealand games of all time and a match which proved a turning point for Welsh rugby. It was the day Steve Hansen picked a largely second string Wales side for the final group fixture of the 2003 World Cup and they proceeded to give the mighty All Blacks the fright of their lives, scoring four tries and leading twice in the second half before ultimately going down 53-37.
It was the day Wales went back to playing “the Welsh way” and it has been credited as the first step towards the trophy triumphs which followed. Ever since, the debate has raged on about how it happened. Was it a case of Hansen sending lambs to the slaughter and those lambs turning into lions? Was it a case of the players ripping up the game-plan and playing off the cuff, with Shane Williams lighting up the Sydney sky? Or was it just a fluke?
