  T he New Zealand Rugby League tourists arrived with one of the most impressive records of any team. For 20 years Great Britain had been unable to win a series against them in this country. For many, this Test Series was the real examination of just how good the British were, especially after their surprise victory over Australia a year before. There was added spice too ... after all it was the New Zealand team which knocked Britain out of the World Cup! This video gives the story of the whole tour and there can be no better climax than the Third Test: At stake, World Cup points and the outcome of the whole series; On show, some of the top rugby league players in the world game - Kurt Sorensen, Dean Bell, Gary Freeman and of course, Kevin Iro. It all began at Knowsley Road St Helens were the opposition.

M ais d'où vient le haka? Il s'agit d'un chant et d'une danse traditionnels Maoris,  cette ethnie ancestrale de Nouvelle-Zélande. Les origines du texte remontent au début du 19ème siècle; celui-ci relate la légende du grand chef Maori Te Raupaara, et la façon dont il aurait été sauvé de la mort par un étrange être chevelu. En voici les paroles, d'abord en Maori, puis en Français : 'Ka mate, ka mate, ka ora, ka ora, ka mate, ka mate, ka ora, ka ora, tenei te tangata puhuruhuru, nana i tiki mai wahkawohiti te ra, a upane upane, upane kaupane, whiti te ra!', ce qui signifie 'Je meurs, je meurs, je suis vivant, je suis vivant, je meurs, je meurs, je suis vivant, je suis vivant, c'est l'homme  velu qui a ressuscité le soleil pour moi, un pas vers le haut, puis encore un autre, un pas vers le haut, un autre, le soleil brille!'.
